In an article submission to iAfrikan Heather Mavunga explores the AfCFTA - Africa Continental Free Trade Area pros & challenges as the agreements has been ratified by 20+ states to date.

"Negotiating the detailed agreement timeously between nations is critical to ensure a development-oriented, balanced, comprehensive and modern agreement that can foster structural transformation at a granular state level, create jobs across regional economic communities whilst simultaneously reducing poverty. Emmanuel Gamor, a World Economic Forum Global Shaper and owner of education consulting group Kanea believes that in keeping with multilateral norms of negotiation, “special-interest technical negotiating groups” may help speed up the overall negotiation."

Sadly, the #AccraFloods happened while I was away but enough to affect me while I was speaking on the "Data Revolution" on the continent and what is needed.

Deeper:  While in CapeTown, I was sent pictures of the devastation that ensued after the Accra Floods. I also came back to a flooded home and flooded car: pictures on IG here. I am usually honest with family & very close friends, but the psychological and financial shake-up lingers on in my life & it has been almost month later. I am one of the lucky ones. Our city & its folk (especially on the bottom tier of the economic ladder) are victims to this and other needless & preventable tragedies almost annually. There MUST be a better way. There have been lots of reports on Ebola in Africa lately.

Ebola is a rare but deadly virus that causes bleeding inside and outside the body.

As the virus spreads through the body, it damages the immune system and organs. Ultimately, it causes levels of blood-clotting cells to drop. This leads to severe, uncontrollable bleeding.

The disease, also known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever or Ebola virus, kills up to 90% of people who are infected.

There are NO officially recorded cases of ebola/anyone having contracted ebola in Ghana as of today, Monday August 18th, 2014. Trace ebola cases here.

At this month's Accra Discourse, hosted by the World Economic Forum Global Shapers Accra Hub, Joy Seanehia, a researcher at Noguchi and Kobby Blay, of Ghana Health Nest debunked myths and misinformation surrounding ebola reporting in Ghana.

My first trip to Abuja, and second to Nigeria (I'd been to Lagos with Rotary/Rotaract in 2013) was pretty awesome.

As members of the Global Shapers Accra Hub; 7 members from our hub and I attended #ShapeAfrica2014 in Abuja last weekend. Shape Africa is the annual conference of World Economic Forum Global Shapers hubs on the continent and this year's was a precursor to the World Economic Forum being hosted in Abuja at the Barcelona Hotel.


+Ato Ulzen-Appiah , +Donald Ward +Yawa Hansen-Quao  and I were the first four from the team to make the trip on Friday and we were self-appointed #ArikAir ambassadors.

The early check-in time had us all feeling #SomeWayBi especially as the staff weren't at their station on time. After finally getting ticket confirmations for the flight at the very last minute, it was smooth sailing into Abuja and Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport.

My host +Oluwayimika Angel Adelaja and her husband were phenomenal, that evening they broke bread with members of the Accra and Abuja hubs over barbecue that leaves my mouth watering whenever I go down memory lane....I can still see Patrice - the chef/help - bringing freshly blended all-natural pineapple and watermelon juice in jugs...#Joy #Foodian #234Moments.

Day 1 of #SHAPEAfrica2014 exceeded my expectations. Before we left Accra there had been disturbing reports about bomb blasts and the unfortunate abduction of 200+ school girls in the country. Instead of fiddling our thumbs and contributing to the heightened rhetoric, + Chidiogo and members from the  Lagos, Abuja & Kano Hubs created a website to collate information on each missing girl. My take away from #ShapeAfrica2014 in Abuja:

• Nigeria is a beautiful country with beautiful people and real challenges, but news reports are only one side of the story
• I could live as a working professional in Abuja
• Similar issues in Ghana are in Nigeria and most times the best approach is to find #BoldSolutions that involve the people; after all, we know what affects us best with noteworthy insights on resolution
• I was blessed this past weekend, if not for anything, to be amongst some of Africa's best & brightest and with a collaborative spirit our future is bright indeed!
