First month of 2016 started off with a bang. I resolved, as I have for a while now to start the new year with a new mantra that develops on last year's #Deeper. And I remember sharing my train of thought with a close friend who expressed apprehension when "someone mentioned" #SelfLove. Thirty-plus days into the new year and I am convinced I couldn't have picked a better time to shape my decisions and actions. More on #SelfLove in a bit...

One of the positive results to committing to #Deeper is my engagement with +Global Shapers Accra. The Accra Hub is an entrepreneurs-packed group of young professionals who are passionate and have the potential to truly leave a positive impact on the world.

In 2015 I applied for, and we won, the opportunity to host #ShapingDavos in Accra on the topic "Building Trust in Public-Private Partnerships" (blog post here) this year the topic “Creating 75 million entrepreneurs, is it possible?

#ShapingDavos is a global phenomenon that connects 20 cities from around the world to discuss 10 topics related to the theme of the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting 2016 in Davos - Klosters. In spite of the struggles, challenges and difficulties there are bright spots, real bright spots that have helped deal with each obstacle and challenge. For that I am grateful. A wise person once shared with me that there isn't life without obstacles, and so as I turn thirty, I am contemplative and appreciative about all the victories (big or small) that help make this journey memorable. A few days into January and relevant conversations are already being had. Besides posting on the successful execution of projects/events I'll do my best to include #BehindTheScenes challenges and tit-bits.

My resolution for 2015 is Deeper - a deeper commitment  to things I'm already involved in but also sharing and seeking deeper understanding on the happenings in my life.

 As a member of the +Global Shapers Accra hub, we were psyched to be selected as one of the 40 (from 401 hubs) all across the globe to host a new initiative #ShapingDavos.

Shaping Davos in Accra was on 1 of 10 topics explored at +World Economic Forum "Building Trust in Public-Private Partnerships" with the newly appointed minister for PPP's Hon. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo in attendance. Panelists included: Global Shaper +kow@kaessuman.com , +Christabel Dadzie & +Moses Baiden . It was huge learning experience for me as the project lead a big win for young African voices across the world.

Back on my new year's resolution on deeper, my lessons learnt as a project lead of a team of amazing, super starts, and getting us all together:

• Great is never easy, it takes hard work to rise above mediocrity 
• Together is always better than one
• The reward is always sweetest shared

Let it marinate. I hope to learn more, give more and live deeper, even with my mistakes.

I am a proud product of Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School, one of the top secondary schools in West Africa. After that, there's very little else I'm proud of in the current Ghanaian education sector.

Let's take one metric, of course not the be all end all, but passing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results are a requirement for admission into tertiary institutions/colleges/universities.

Of all the students who took the 2013 WASSCE exam: "...68, 062 students of the 242, 162 candidates had grades between A1-C6 in at least 6 subjects (including English & core Mathematics which are requirements for admission into tertiary institutions)."

 That's only 28.11% of students who sat for the exams passed. Not excelled people, (C's included) passed. That's a failing grade however you look at it.

My first trip to Abuja, and second to Nigeria (I'd been to Lagos with Rotary/Rotaract in 2013) was pretty awesome.

As members of the Global Shapers Accra Hub; 7 members from our hub and I attended #ShapeAfrica2014 in Abuja last weekend. Shape Africa is the annual conference of World Economic Forum Global Shapers hubs on the continent and this year's was a precursor to the World Economic Forum being hosted in Abuja at the Barcelona Hotel.


+Ato Ulzen-Appiah , +Donald Ward +Yawa Hansen-Quao  and I were the first four from the team to make the trip on Friday and we were self-appointed #ArikAir ambassadors.

The early check-in time had us all feeling #SomeWayBi especially as the staff weren't at their station on time. After finally getting ticket confirmations for the flight at the very last minute, it was smooth sailing into Abuja and Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport.

My host +Oluwayimika Angel Adelaja and her husband were phenomenal, that evening they broke bread with members of the Accra and Abuja hubs over barbecue that leaves my mouth watering whenever I go down memory lane....I can still see Patrice - the chef/help - bringing freshly blended all-natural pineapple and watermelon juice in jugs...#Joy #Foodian #234Moments.

Day 1 of #SHAPEAfrica2014 exceeded my expectations. Before we left Accra there had been disturbing reports about bomb blasts and the unfortunate abduction of 200+ school girls in the country. Instead of fiddling our thumbs and contributing to the heightened rhetoric, + Chidiogo and members from the  Lagos, Abuja & Kano Hubs created a website to collate information on each missing girl. My take away from #ShapeAfrica2014 in Abuja:

• Nigeria is a beautiful country with beautiful people and real challenges, but news reports are only one side of the story
• I could live as a working professional in Abuja
• Similar issues in Ghana are in Nigeria and most times the best approach is to find #BoldSolutions that involve the people; after all, we know what affects us best with noteworthy insights on resolution
• I was blessed this past weekend, if not for anything, to be amongst some of Africa's best & brightest and with a collaborative spirit our future is bright indeed!
