Mini Me

Mini Me
I went to a Catholic church choir robing event with my dad over the weekend. It was a day long affair with choirs from different denominations in attendance; Pentecostal, Presbyterian and Methodist. I sang along to a few songs that I surprisingly remembered from my prep school days and witnessed priceless moments like the one above: The girl and her mom, both in the choir, as they admire the younger's certificate of appreciation.

saintless Saint

Saintless Saint [for blog]

Saint, his actual name, is a friend of mine and also a musician/producer who came by the office earlier today. He had a hilarious story to tell about how he cut his hand opening a can of corned beef with pliers [lol very reminiscent of my days in boarding school] and hence the picture on the left. Shortly afterwards my dad set up his studio for a shoot with a client, Saint and I snuck in to take a picture with my camera and a 18-55mm fixed lens. Juxtaposing the two, we both laughed at how quickly his fortune had changed during the day, well thanks to the camera.

I did not get a chance to go to the Atlanta Greek Picnic this year, actually never have, and these pictures serve as a memento for high school students who visited UF through the Alliance program earlier this summer.

Old Flame

Old Flame

I took this picture at a 50th Birthday party. I recently watched the movie 'Benjamin Button' and gained a renewed appreciation for all of life's seasons, old and new. It was thus amusing to watch this 'older' couple flirt.

Three Wise Monkeys

The three wise monkeys: "see no evil, hear no evil, speak on evil." Self-portrait: thanks to my dad's strobe lights, D80 remote and backdrop. Inspired by Vikram Rangala, former professor at UF, and his Writing & Love class. Ghandi carried a small statue of the three monkeys as one of his only possessions; Ghandi was a staunch proponent of non-violent activism, very much like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela.

You May Kiss the Bride

You May Kiss the Bride

A few years ago there was a catchy hiplife song ( hiplife: a hybrid between hip-hop and Ghanaian hi-life music) and the hook went something like "You may kiss your bride *mwa*" Summer is definitely 'wedding season' and it is easy to see how older couples catch the bug, like the catchy hiplife song.

Sister Sister

Sister Sister

One of the things I like about being back in VA is the opportunity to see old high school friends and some of the people I grew up with, and the Kuffour sisters are no different. Their older brother was actually my 'road-dawg' back in the day.

lil' couple

lil' Couple

I had the chance to cover my first wedding with my dad last weekend. I felt a little more relaxed knowing that I had the flexibility to take pictures other than those of the bride & groom as his pictures would count as well. Very few can argue how photogenic kids are, much less smiling kids in wedding attire.

Don't blink.

O snap

This is one of those pictures that I was even more pleased to see after the event. I remember noticing her shutter go off as I pressed mine, but I didn't have any idea that I'd captured the 'before and during' shot. I noticed the pictures after I transfered the album from my SD card and thought "O snap!"

A magic experience

Disney 04

Having spent a majority of my formative years in Ghana, I realize that I've only begun to live some of my childhood fantasies; Disney, Magic Kingdom in Orlando is definitely one of them. If I could turn back the hand of time I would look just as this young lad does, face paint an all.

Disney 03

Mickey Mouse, Tom and Jerry and Popeye are one of my earliest recollections of cartoons. Now I can't even keep up with what's on Disney channel anymore: Miley Cirus, Jonas Bros. and the new movie UP? Back in my day (ahem I'm beginning to sound like a grandad now) it was all about the animals that could speak. They were witty, fun to watch and definitely kept me positively preoccupied. Mickey's Philharmagic brought back some great memories.

Disney 02

Speaking of talking animals, Lion King was and is my all time favorite Disney movie and happens to be one of the first movies I personally owned on a VHS, along with Peter Pan and Alladin, back when VHS mattered. Rafiki was funny, a little intimidating and wise, but he was one of the main characters you saw at the beginning and the end of the movie--and when you saw Rafiki holding a little cub, you knew then and there that the delicate balance had been restored again!

Disney01

The smile on this little girl's face is priceless. Definitely helped me come to the conclusion that it is NEVER too late to live as a kid again, however momentarily, it is the little kid in us that is never afraid to dream, live and explore!

Rae of sunshine

Rae02

When my good friend, Rae, asked for a photo shoot I already knew what the blog title would be! I was almost as excited about the posting as I was for the shoot. It was definitely one of the more memorable bonding experiences I've had with Rae...and we've had quite a few. Hopefully my pictures do her justice as to what a wonderful, gorgeous human being she really is.

Spidey

Spidey

Every photographer has their niche, or at least strive to find his/hers. I personally prefer human expressions and thus far all my subjects have been, well human. Here's one of the few that you'd agree goes against my norm. A tarantula that was being displayed by a student group on the Reitz Union colonnade. I tried to pet it after this shot, squinting to find a sting... some legitimacy to Peter Parker and my web slinging device... no such luck.

That aint my baby daddy

That aint my baby daddy

You know that song, ♪ who dat is? that aint my baby daddy ♪ came to mind when I took this picture. It is a cool sight to see guys take care of little kids. Even though Zion isn't Harvard's, this is still one of my all time favorite picture moments.
